It's been long since someone posted on this blog, but nonetheless, I am posting here because I don't want to flood the facebook wall with a huge amount of text.
So anyway, here goes.

Training on Wednesday, 11 January 2012, is on.
Stadium, 1430pm, we'll start.
If you guys can come down earlier to brush up your throws or whatsoever, that would be magnificent.
Please bring a disc of your own, and darks/whites.
If not, don't blame me for the consequences.

Another thing to note, Friday, 13 January 2012, is our AGM - Annual General Meeting.
We won't be having training, so regardless of whatever reasons you might have, please be down.
Venue will be confirmed on Wednesday.
It will take up our normal training time slot, which is 1800-2200.
Get the things that you are supposed to get ready, ready.

And another thing, please indicate whether you will be coming or not, on the attendance list, for this Wednesday's training.
It's a simple and quick task, not needing more than a minute.
If you do not have the list, get it from Haziq.

Hi guys, here's the details for the upcoming league finals which is tomorrow.

How to get there?
1. Take bus 85 from bus stop opposite Khatib MRT station
or
2. Take train to SengKang MRT and take a short walk to the field.

What time?
The league finals starts at 9 officially with the round robin and should end around 5 in the evening.

Be sure to come down as you'll be able to see top clubs in Singapore all vying for the ultimate champion.

The first spreadsheet is regarding a mini tournament (ZD hats) which i encourage all of you to join in, as it would let you guys experience what a ultimate tournament is like. It's held on the 30th of July, Saturday, there will be be participation from other schools too. So you guys would definitely learn something and have fun at the same time.

Hi guys, training will resume next Wednesday 6th July 2011 at 1.30pm. Please bring along your track shoes as we will conduct track training too. One thing you guys gotta note is that, please do not apply your GEMs on Wednesdays, as it will eat into our training time. If you're unable to make it for training or you are coming late, please have the courtesy to inform either Daniel, Pravin or me.

Hi SPU!

We just had our Day-Camp a few days ago and it ended with a blast! Hope everyone learnt something from the camp and also made friends! There won't be training next week (20th - 26th). MST is in a week or two so all the best to everyone! Trainings will resume after MST.

This sunday, 19th June, there'll be an Ultimate Frisbee event (OpenSeries#3) held at Punggol, ChengLim Fields. It's a whole day event so it'll be from morning till evening. It is strongly encouraged for everyone to head down there to know more about Ultimate Frisbee. See you guys again during trainings!

SPU Freshmen Orientation

Hey SPU Juniors!

There will be a Freshmen Orientation programme next week spanning over the 13^th, 14^th and 15^th of June. It’ll be a whole day event (Not overnight) for all three days!

As Pravin has mentioned in the previous post, the cost of this Orientation/”Day-Camp” will be $5. Registration for those who have yet to sign up will be done this Thursday during training, an announcement will be made for you guys to register for camp. Please pay the $5 upon registering.

For individuals who are not able to make it on Thursday please take the initiative to ask your friends to register for you first, or you could Email your Name, Gender, Hp Number to Theresa Chia at theresachia.yj@gmail.com with the subject heading “SPU Freshmen Orientation”. Please do so latest by 9^th June, 2100h. We have a registration deadline to meet as well.

Hey SPU Juniors!

Holidays are here! But that doesn't mean there's no trainings!

Trainings will be on tuesday and thursday, 7th and 9th of June. It'll be from 9am to 3pm at West Coast Park!
There'll be a short break for you guys to have your lunch so i suggest y'all to bring something light to eat. Strictly NO fast-food and soft drinks besides isotonic drinks. Bring the usual *darks and whites, bottle of water and sunblock.

*Darks means any colour apart from white, so colours like red, green, blue etc. can be worn.

When you exit from Clementi MRT Station, turn to your left, go down to the interchange and take bus 175. Alight when you see MacDonald's opposite the stop. You should also see a 3-way junction nearby. From Mac, walk in straight and you'll be able to see a big field. Gather at the amphitheatre (a big shelter).

From the map, the red star is the bus stop to alight and the black star is the amphitheatre.

For those who have ordered the disc but yet to pay, please bring along $15 during training. If you're unable to pay by this week, you will not get your disc. New Season, New People, New Goal, New Mindset

Hi SPU,

i hope every single one of you had a good rest over the past few weeks, taking a break from IVP and also having your ITP. Daniel and I would first like to inform you guys that IVP 2011 has been a success for us, although we retained our seeding, we could have done better. Nonetheless, credits to those who worked hard for the team and people who came down to support the team. Thank you.

Back To School

As we all know, school is resuming next week, so is training. We've managed to get the same slots for trainings on Wednesday and Friday. As per usual, track training and PT would be on Wednesdays and PT on Fridays. I would like to emphasize that track trainings and PT are necessities to building a team both mentally and physically. If we don't train, we'll only lose out as our opponents are constantly improving. Take it as a advantage to making yourself stronger.

Wednesday: 130pm - 6pm
Friday: 5 pm - 9pm

If you are not able to attend training, please have the courtesy to inform us 2 days before training.

It's a new school year, thus we have a new intake of people. And i would like everyone of you to help out in this. Knowing that the current juniors is quite small in numbers, we are intending to aim for a higher intake amount for this year, and also we have to get the message to them that SPU is a competitive cca. And not a cca which you can come and go whenever you like, as we have already seen many of such cases over the past year.

New Mindset

Juniors, you guys gotta start stepping up your game play, no more funny reasons to skip trainings. If i ever had high fever and i can still attend training, what excuses do you have? If i ever had assignment submissions weighing 45% of my GPA and i still go training while i achieve good grades, what excuses are you going to give me? And honestly, you guys have some big shoes to fill into that your current seniors are still trying, so whatcha gonna do? Go think about it.

Fellow sophomores, personally i feel that some of you gotta start stepping up alright, it's been over a year or so, and I'd say some of you are still "lost". Lost in terms that you don't know what you want, what you wanna achieve. If you dream big, then it's time you go big or go home. You guys are still living in that circle that you drew around you.

Overall, Daniel and I will be preparing you guys for upcoming tournaments, and we would like you to know that everyone of you will be starting on the same platform. Everyone will be given a equal amount of time to perform and improve. And i urge all of you to start speaking up during trainings when you have something to say, it'll benefit not only yourself but the team.

Lastly, come for every training with the right mindset and attitude to learn. If you've a big ego, swallow it down. If you think you're good, then improve and be better. There are no boundaries to what you can achieve if you guys put in effort. You've to find your motivation to run harder, jump higher, throw better, and ultimately be a better player.

Hi guys, this is the roster for our IVP 2011 squad. Firstly i know some of you guys might be disappointed that you didn't get chosen into the squad, but you gotta know that invidually you guys have your very only talent.

We've made decisions to put your fellow teammates in as they possess some things that we find, that can work well together as a team. Hi guys, it's our final dash towards IVP already, so i hope all of you would turn up for training this Sunday, 13th March 2011. Venue is to be confirmed again, but most probably would be at West Coast Park. Hi guys, i think it's about time to know if you're cut out for it or not. And by releasing the team list, i hope none of you start to get complacent and not turn up for trainings, instead you should be asking for more.

IVP is just around the corner and i hope each and everyone of you attend every trainings. And judging by the number of trainings we are having now, we are definitely heading nowhere and thus we may include extra trainings into the weekends.

Hi guys, i know this notice is coming in a little late, but training tomorrow on the 1st of December is canceled as it's better for you guys to be prepared for your upcoming mst. However, the training next week on the friday is tentative and will be confirmed again.

Hello ppl,

Trainings will be on on wednesday and friday respectively.
As i told you guys before about us (the seniors) are looking out for ppl for the training squad for IVP, hope you guys did not forget this.

Next training onwards, please bring your aggressiveness, the right attitude to every training. If you leave your right midset to train at home, i'd suggest you just stay home. We ain't called "Intensity" and "Desire" for fun. Bear that in mind.

Attendance wise, ultimate is a team game, can you tell me how to conduct training when there's less than 2 lines of ppl down for training? Spare a thought for your team mates who find time to come training.

Now about the initiative. If the training starts at 130, it means boots up by 130. If you see no one on the field, take the initiative to set up the field, etc. Take the initiative to inform any of the seniors if you're not coming for training.

Don't be a pampered kid, grow up. You still can train even your muscles are aching, having minor sprains or whatever. Ask around among the seniors what if they have minor sprains, muscle aching etc, do they still train? It's time to step out of your comfort zone.

Lastly, seniors came up with this rule:
"No water, no disc, no boots = no training for you"

We are not scolding you guys, you are old enough to understand what we want.
It's just a reminder of what is expected from you guys.

Congratulations team Intensity for winning this year's Poly 50 with a timing of 1hour 19mins and team Desire coming in 17th!

It's SPU's first year sending teams for the school wide running event.

Would like to thank the people who put the teams together [Jon] Intensity and Desire's captains Dave and Ronald for leading the two teams. Deme for a very last minute decision to run for us and all the people who took time to be down to support the teams.

It's a real joy and encouraging to see supporters at every corner, made the whole run a lot more enjoyable and trust me your support was vital to our victory.

Poly50 is this coming wed 27 oct and we'll meet at 1pm at FC5.

For SPU Team Intensity and Desire, do keep yourself fit by not eating oily food for the coming 2days and if possible, do personal PT at home. On that day itself, we'll go for warm-ups once everyone is together we'll and stroll around the route for poly50. The team capt will collect the respective team's admin card and pass to the officials at 2pm. Die die also must have all the admin card or the team will be disqualified. Team capt will brief their teammates and give a detailed info for who is running for the 1st few rounds. Team capt will brief the rest of th The race will start at 345pm so please be mentally and physically prepared by then! If you wanna meet earlier, captains please do contacts your teammates.

Team Intensity is team 35 and Desire is team 14.

And please put on your sp shirt-jersey, if you don't have one just wear sp shirt.

For SPU non-participants, all have to stay and support the team if u have nothing on that day. We really do need your help in providing drinks such as water and isotonic drinks at every 3 stations. And maybe a little deep heat rubs too! Your help is crucial to the success of the team, everyone plays apart!

Basically, it's a annual league competition organize by SingUltimate to bring the ultimate community closer.

Players of all different clubs/ schools will be mixed up together, thus it's encouraged that most, in fact majority of you all to join.

Trainings for the next 2 weeks are as stated -

Seal the Deal camp

This coming holidays, we will be having our annual Seal The Deal camp. The camp aims to bring Ultimate in SPU to the next level. As we have a limited amount of resources, the STD will be on a compulsory invitational basis.

We will review the performance of the players once normal trainings resume in the first 2 weeks of the holidays.

Just to make some things clear. Trainings are compulsory. It's not a if you can make it you come basis. For this period, unless you are having exams or official classes(normal schooling days) you are expected to be at trainings.

It's "I will be there, unless I can't make it."

not "If I can make it, I'll be there."

& there's this saying -

"If your hand is injured, you can still train up on your fitness

If your legs are injured, you can work on your throws

If your whole body is injured, you can better focus on learning from your teammates.

If you'v the flu, a-little fresh air is good for you.

There's always something for you to do, be it re-filling water or being around to learn."

Hey SPU juniors!

This is the camp kit list!

Sufficient *dark and white clothings for 3 days and 2 nights. (minimum of 4 white and 4 dark)
Sufficient Socks.
Water bottle ( At least 1.5 litre)
Track shoes and cleats/boots.
Daily necessities.
Money for breakfast and dinner (only lunch will be provided)
Sleeping bag (Optional)
Disc (write your name on the disc, the blank part at the back)

*Dark means any colour apart from white, so colours like red, green, blue etc can be worn.

When you come out from Clementi mrt station, turn left, go down to the interchange and take bus 175. Alight when you see a MacDonald opposite the stop. You should also see a 3 way junction nearby. From Mac, walk in straight and find a big field. Gather at the amphitheatre (one big shelter).

From the map, the red star is the bus stop to alight, the black star is the amphitheatre.

We've just received final confirmation for the booking of rooms for our camp.

As everyone should already know, SPU will be holding our first camp for the year.

Attention!

It is very essential and I personally would encourage you to register and participate in the camp.

It's fun in the sun guaranteed Ultimate Style!

We'll be covering the basics more in depth

Marking
Horizontal Offence
Endzone Offence

You'll get a chance to get to know your fellow teammates alot better as you learn, progress as a team to compete in SPU's very own tournament held during the camp.

You'll get to experience how it's like to be part of a tournament, the different processes and of course, playing for a much sought after mystery prize!

UP Coming Weeks

Hello people,

in the upcoming weeks we'll be moving onto various fundamentals of Ultimate during Thursday trainings.

Please do understand that we will try to cater to as many people as possible, because of limited space due to the closure of the sports complex we will have to make do with what we have.

None-the-less every training is essential for learning the sport.

There will be a training camp during the first week of the June Holidays. We will update once more details are confirmed.

Some Common FAQs-

Are there any trials for Ultimate? If so when?

We have what is called, on-going trials. This means that we take in as many people as we can and train up as many people who want to be trained up. When a competition or tournament (eg: Pol-ITE games, SMU Invitationals) arises we will conduct selections based on the pool of players we currently have.

Why is this so?

Ultimate is a relatively new sport to the country, as such even though many have played it before in schools (eg: PE lessons, sports festivals, Teen Games) there is a whole lot more to the sport which would be taught along the way. As such selections at this point of time would be hard to be carried out. We have seen many who initially couldn't even throw a disc properly become fine players after time.

What are some of the competitions Ultimate has in the year?

Ultimate has become an official Pol-ITE (poly-ite) sport.
Inter-varsity Polytechnic (IVP) - NYP Invitational , 13 schools (5Polys, 4 Unis, 4 JCs)
Grab.Huck.Score - SMU's Invitational

and a few more minor tournaments

Are there other schools who have Ultimate Teams?

Yes, currently all 5 Polytechnics and 4 Universities have Ultimate teams. The sport itself is called "ultimate". There are 4 JCs and ACS(i) which adds to the list.

Ultimate Gains Ground

Hello People,

Real exciting news for you all, I believe some of you may have heard from me on this already.

Ultimate is now an Official Pol-ITE sport!

This means we have moved from an interest group to a competitive sport to a sports team. (*Sports Jacket!!!)

Pol-ITE games for ultimate will be held from June-July. As such Pol-ITE team trainings will commence very very soon. For my sake, please don't ask me about the team yet, it will be announced when it's to be announced.

In-addition to that, the stadium FINALLY has floodlights being erected. So please start praying we get a favorable time-slot for training. Current we only have 1 training day because of the field closure.
